About Salty Marsh Charters

Captain Jake was born in the bayou at the mouth of the Mississipi River and has been on the water his whole life.  If you’re looking for the man they call the Venice Pirate, a good time, and a nice box of fish, Salty Marsh Charters can help you out with all three.

A family-owned and operated business, Captian Jake and his family love and live everything Louisiana.  The Captian takes you fishing, and his wife handles the bookings and lodging. The whole Morris family is dedicated to making sure you have one hell of a fishing trip and a great stay at their lodge.  No doubt you’ll even see his two sons on the dock or around The Lodge or Houseboat.

The Morris Family

Captain Jake was born with salt in his veins and is happily married to his wife, Courtney, with two sons.  When you fish with Salty Marsh Charters you’re fishing with a real local.

Frequently asked questions

A Q&A with Captain Jake

What kinda boat ya got?

Except for fishing, there is nothing else I’d rather talk about! You’ll fish on a 24′ Robalo with dual front and rear seats with backrests and cup holders and a big ole front and back deck for casting.  She’s great in shallow and deep water.

What fish do you catch?

If it’s in the water, I’m gonna catch it. Down here we target redfish, trout, sheepshead, tripletail, red snapper, lane snapper, mangrove snapper, drum fish, jack crevalle, shark, pompano, cobia, and triggerfish.

What does Salty Marsh provide during the charter?

We’ll bring the fishing poles, reels, tackle, live and dead bait, bottled water, fish cleaning, fuel, and a great time!

What about lunch?

You’re welcome to bring your own in a soft-sided cooler or let Mrs. Morris know ahead of time, and she’ll hook you up.  If you stay with us, make sure to ask about her shrimp, crab, or crawfish boils.

Is this a family charter? Can I bring my kids?

Absolutely, they’ll have such a great time they’ll never pick up their iPhone again.  Salty Marsh is a family-owned company, and I’ve got two little boys myself.

How many people can fit on the boat?

Aww, man.  You’re my kinda person, let’s go fishing.  We have several boats and can accommodate large corporate groups, smaller bachelor parties, and families.

Do you offer sightseeing tours?

Absolutely!  This is the most beautiful place in the world, and we love to show it off.

How far out do you go?

We’re gonna go where the fish you wanna catch are! Or nine miles out, whichever comes first.

Do I need a fishing license?

Nobody is getting arrested on this boat.  Every person onboard needs a fishing license, and we will help you select the best and cheapest option.

How long is the trip?

Depends on how quickly you catch your limit!  We definitely want everybody happy when they hit that dock, so if you catch your limit early, we do some catch and release.

What do I need to bring on the charter?

Bring your sunblock, warm, cold, and rain gear as instructed, and strong arms to reel in the fish.  You can bring your own reels or use ours.  You can bring a soft-sided cooler with drinks and snacks if you like.

What about hunting or fly fishing?

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

What's the name of your boat?

The Black Pearl.

Get on a big one, catch that limit, getcha a trophy.

"We had an amazing time with Captain Jacob with Salty Marsh! He put us on some amazing fish, but more importantly, he was just a good time to be around. Jacob definitely made our fishing experience a memorable one and would recommend Salty Marsh to anyone that is looking to do some fishing!"
